Can you get viruses from online games?

My Dad just got a a new awesome computer, but wants to keep this one totally virus free, unlike his last one... He doesn't care if I play single player games on it, but he is afraid that if I play any sort of online game, it's going to get a virus. I don't really care about most of the games out there, but I really want to play WoW on it. So I need to know, is it possible to get a virus, trojan, spyware, whatever from playing games like WoW or CoH? He told me his main fear was that someone is going to trade me an item, and somehow that's going to infect his computer. Is this even possible? Sources for your answer would be awesome...

You sure can. A lot of the free games have tag along virus or adware attached.

depends where you play the game and what site its on......... you shouldnt get it from some of the more popular games (like WOW)
Well keep your firewall running, if something asks you to disable it, don't, duh.

Really there's not too much risk unless you download. Spyware and Adware are really the main things from the internet.

Be sure to back all the stuff up, install AVG, create an SOS disk, etc etc, and you should be fine.
