Does it hurt to leave a pc on 24/7 and will you get more viruses that way?

I usually shut everything down at night and reboot in the a.m. as I thought by shuting down I would be less apt to pick up viruses or not as apt to be hacked.

That is a very good question.

Yes you are prone to pick up more viruses if the computer is turned on 24/7 only if it is connected to the internet.

It is easier and more efficent to leave a computer on 24/7 because rebooting it each time can make you wait for up to 20 minutes before you can start work on it. This depends on how many programmes are in the start up directory.

Good Luck

mmmm.. I am not sure about the viruses.. but don't you feel sorry for your computer!! he eds to rest!!! let him sleep
If you have no firewall or a crap one like norton and your computer is open to certain ports like the internet (http) and email (pop3) it is possible for you to receive a virus.
Actually, if you have it on a UPS, so you don't suffer from brownouts, OK to leave on.

But, ONLY IF it is behind a hardware firewall, ( FREE http://ipcop.org uses an old computer, headless!) or a Linksys firewall/router!
