What forces RNA virusues to carry RNA?
I can say, this makes them easy to capture host protein production system rapidly, and start to produce their own proteins, anything else you can add? But for DNA carriying viruses, then why they dont have RNA? Thanks.
What are the benefits of having RNA as the inheritance molecule rather tnan DNA in RNA viruses?computer repair
There isn't necessarily a benefit to using RNA or DNA in viruses--it is more a reflection of the evolution and phylogeny of the virus historically. After all, RNA and DNA viruses are quite able to infect and replicate. RNA viruses are not even necessarily less sophisticated or more primitive than DNA viruses. Really it's just two distinct mechanisms for infection and replication by choosing a different step in biochemistry to interfere with.

I think part of the question is wrong.
Viruses DO NOT produce their own proteins....they use the host RNAm synthesis machine to provide them with such (capside etc)
Viruses by definition, only carry either DNA or RNA...never both.
Most of them, (the small ones, like picorna viruses, arenaviruses etc) carry RNA, because its easier for them, to insert the sequence inthe DNA template of the host, invading the cell more quickly,,,,,,
