I know Yahoo has some type of AntiSpyware technology in their toolbar, http://www.download.com/Yahoo-Toolbar-wi... I don't know how well it works but the best active antispyware protection comes from MS AntiSpyware Beta, http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security... which monitors just about every aspect of your system and will prevent spyware from installing.

It can't catch everything so I also like Adaware Se, Spybot S%26D and Spyware Blaster, use all four and you will never have spyware on your system again, just make sure to do regular scans to make sure.

For active virus protection I like AVG Free Edition made by Grisoft which will actually warn you if (common) threats are trying to install on your system. The heuristic analysis can't catch everything and it will stop common threats but you should run regular scans with it as well, http://free.grisoft.com/
