You should be able to choose what wifi source you can connect to. Your PS3 is not in any danger and the worse thing that can happen is they block your PS3 from using their connection.

As far as I know there arent any viruses made to hack the ps3.
I also have a PS3 wiv someone elses wifi connection....as far as I kno, PS3's cant get a virus(as there hasnt been a situation yet) but i belive it could be possible for a virus to be sent and erase items on your hardrive...

but one key safety feature is that although you can see someone elses wifi connection..they cant send you a virus as long as you dont connect with them(ie only use your own wifi connection that you have)
