ive been downloading lot of file for free but i dont know if the file i download has a virus coz it cant detect my anti virus program becoz one time i download a file and open it becoz my anti virus software dont warn me my computer crash coz it has a virus i wonder what anti virus program does? and i want to ask also if example i download a file with virus but i cant open or execute that what will happen? is my computer has a virus becoz i download that even i cant open or execute the file?

Run a full system scan, DON'T open the file, and in the future set your virus protector to scan all incoming files before downloading if your virus protector doesn't catch a certain type of virus then up grade to a better virus protection software and notify your virus protection company and let them know that this virus got through their protection software.
If you can't clean your computer take it to a computer shop and let them clean it out.

All antiviruses have this facility of scanning files . Just rightclick on the file or folder and choose scan from the popup menu.
